On June 23, 2017, a major disaster declaration was issued by President Trump following severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, and flooding occurred between May 27, 2017, and May 28, 2017.  Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) funds were made available to provide resources to assist states, tribal governments, territories and local communities in their efforts to reduce or eliminate the risk of repetitive flood damage to buildings and structures insurable under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) as authorized by the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968, as amended. This funding is implemented under the authority of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, 42 U.S.C. ยงยง 5121-5207.

Proposed Work and Purpose: Giles County is respectfully requesting funds to purchase four weather stations to be installed throughout the county North, South, East, and West. These weather stations will allow us to get a complete view of weather conditions throughout Giles County for future response, planning, and mitigation and also working toward an Enhanced Mitigation Plan. These stations will be placed at existing facilities, 3 will be at schools and students will be allowed to access weather data from these stations for educational purposes. The 4 weather stations will upload data to a cloud server and allow us to compare data for response and planning purposes. Giles County Emergency Management will take ownership and be responsible for post project site maintenance and inspections. Information regarding the proposed locations of these weather stations is detailed below:
